Heroes And Lost Top The Illegal Download Charts
When it comes to illegal downloads, US internet users love to dive in and get downloading. In fact it has become more popular to download a torrent than actually watch the show legally.
Heroes from NBC tops the list according to Torrentfreak (file sharing tracker), with around 6.8 million illegal downloads during 2009 whilst only achieving 5.9 million actual television viewers.

Lost, courtesy of ABC was second in the charts having around 6.3 million naughty downloads whilst having over 11 million television viewers. Prison Break from Fox was third with 3.5 million downloads and a 5.3 million television audience.
On pay tv Showtime there was a similar story with Dexter more popular when illegally downloaded from the net, with 2.8 million downloads against a TV audience of 2.3 million, whilst HBO’s True Blood sneaked into the number 10 spot with 1.6 million downloads and 12.4 million TV viewers.
Earlier this year, research firm Big Champagne put out global statistics that also put Heroes top and Lost in second place. It put the total number of illegal downloaders at 55 million, with the US accounting for 47% of this activity.

I think this chart doesn’t include downloads from file hosting websites, ftp servers, p2p programs etc. It’s unbelievable that almost half illegal downloaders are from US. I thought most of them are from foreign countries…
Haha this is so funny. The TV networks are all trying to make us pay for everything and Hulu wont be free much longer. Dont they understand that all it will do is push more people into downloading illegally!!
And there is no way to stop it. Servers are all over the world and the US cant shut em all down.
Not really the best of news for those who make these shows. It is easy to download these shows and then watch them at your convenience. I will lie if I say that I have not done it yet, but still am trying hard to restrict myself from such illegal activities.
Heroes? Really? That’s a surprise. Is there any kind of list of top ten illegally downloaded movies? I’d love to see that.
In guess, most downloads come from countries where shows are not yet available. As for Dexter, I’m not surprised downloads exceed viewership considering it is on Showtime
That is exactly it: most of the downloads are from places OUTSIDE the USA, where the show is not available yet. Though, as this article stands now, it appears that the author is trying to dishonestly imply otherwise.
