CW network has an unusual problem with its online tv content. Its competing against its own TV show!

The broadcasting network confirmed that episodes of its successful TV series ‘Gossip Girl’ which revolves around the lives of a group of young socialites growing up in New York and who attend elite academic institutions whilst various teenage issues such as sex, drugs, and various other teenage issues, will no longer be streamed on their website although the first 12 season episodes will remain after being made free to view around a week after originally airing.

The CW is attempting to avoid becoming a victim of its own success. The TV hit has proved to be a big attraction online, with every episode generating several hundred thousand views. Many episodes rank as most downloaded via iTunes

“Whilst the buzz on the show has remained strong, we decided to have it be that you can only get it on our TV airwaves,” commented a CW spokesman, who claimed the withdrawal was an “experimental” move. “We will see if that at all impacts the numbers.”

This move is the exact opposite of most TV broadcasters who are jumping on the online tv bandwagon with glee. Full episodes are now routinely broadcast online bringing in a greater advertising revenue per thousand views than Standard TV.

The tide however cannot be stopped and Internet TV will come out on top.
