Google TV Warm Up For Launch By Announcing Content Partners
Google have, in advance of the Google TV launch this month, announced the media partners that will contribute to the new service. Amongst the tv networks and media/internet companies are NBA, Time Warner, Netflix, Amazon and NBC.
The Google TV concept which was announced last May will finally be launched later this month. The service has been created with partners Sony, Intel and Logitech. The concept behind Google TV is to allow viewers full access to television viewing, web viewing and searching plus full access to all users media files from the one box.
Google have also warmed up the public prior to launch by creating a new Google TV website which gives further information and a taster for Google TV and how it works. It also gives details on who is making the hardware. From Sony, an internet-enabled TV set. And from Logitech, as a Google powered set-top box.
Although pricing is still not being discussed, the Google product, powered by the Android operating system will be released soon enough. Logitech are on Wednesday, holding a press conference. Whilst Sony have their own launch coming next week.
Google said in a blog post revealed the content partners which included Amazon video on demand, Netflix plus news sites The New York Times and USA Today. Music is available from Napster, VEVO and Pandora. Whilst social networkers get Twitter and Facebook.
For Google TV, developer product manager Ambarish Kenghe said:- “This is just the beginning. Over the next few weeks, you can expect to hear from more sites that are enhancing their Web content for the television,”.
Although many companies including Sony, have launched internet television sets in the past, they have always been very restrictive and clumsy. The Google TV concept is the first that promises to truly puts the internet inside your tv set.
