Google Release Youtube Remote For Android Devices

Smart phone or remote control?

We spoke recently of tv remotes being replaced by smartphones for the more complicated internet tv systems, and to clarify the point Google have released a Youtube remote for Android phones and tablet computers. The app which can be downloaded from the Android Market for free, allows users to control Youtube video’s playing on their connected tv set or computer screen.

To use the YouTube Remote app, users need to create a connection between their Android device (phone or tablet PC) and the YouTube Leanback website. This can be accessed on a connected tv, Google TV or even your pc screen via YouTube.com/leanback.

To do this, users need to be signed in on both the Android device and the YouTube Leanback website. Then from the comfort of your armchair, you can control the tv with functions such as play, pause, rewind plus volume for any of the millions of YouTube videos.

Currently the YouTube Remote only functions in the US, and in a swipe at rivals Apple, Google are not planning a YouTube Remote for the Apple devices. But then Apple have already released an app for iPhone and iPad allowing a similar control method for Apple TV users.

One thing is for sure, with 35 hours of video uploaded every minute to Youtube, viewers wont run out of stuff to watch.
