Apple TV has been around for some time, but openly described by Apple as a hobby project. However Google are taking the TV concept much more seriously, and using the Android os could overtake Apple on TV as well as on smartphones.

Although the The Apple TV is a good product, Apple dont seem to be delevoping it or realising its full potential. And the news of the Google TV product being produced by Google, Sony and Intel that will see millions of television sets running on open-source Android or similar software that can be seen in new smartphones today.

Will Google TV stop Apple treating Apple TV as just a hobby?

This will see amazing looking menus and apps running on your tv similar to iPhone and Apple TV. Online video and tv from Hulu and YouTube On demand movies and endless customization options. So in effect Google TV could be Apple TV on steroids.

Although former friends, Apple and Google are on the verge of war competing in the mobile phone arena and the living room. The big plus for Google is that the Android open nature will see plenty of third party apps developed from launch, the Apple TV software in contrast is highly regulated and without hacking you are totally tied to what Apple want you to have access to. The good news is that this development may see Apple forced to relax its draconian grip.

Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook was quoted as saying that the Apple TV side of their business is so small that they consider it just a hobby. He said that tit occupied a small space in a market that. And that market is still small in the grand scheme of things. I think Apple may be taking it a little more seriously right now.

The problem is, will Google see the project to the end? They launch so many different things, that they are prone to moving on soon after launch. Considering the attraction of having Google ads on millions of TV screens around the world should concentrate their attention though.

This is funny, Apple TV is terribly boring and expensive. It has 3 or 4 options for viewing, all pay. This is like comparing a Marble to Barn Door, they do not belong together. Have only spent limited time with Apple TV, but after 20 minutes you can see that its just iTunes connected to your TV.

I’ll choose Google TV, because apple has so many compititors, SAMSUNG, blackberry… (iphone 4, ipad). It’s an astonishing phenomena that apple provide users the same content (services) as its compititors with itunes, And the video converter and dvd ripper are no bussiness of “apple” or “blackberry”(both can use them)…on free offline videos (you can get many free videos converter and dvd rippers which are working on windows and different with handbrake from aneesoft official website, but ifunia is should be paid for apple devices on mac). So I’ll choose which can offer many of the entertainment sources online.
