cellphonetv Free Mobile TV Coming To Cell Phones in 2009You could soon be watching Free TV on your mobile or cell phone say TV broadcasters. The news comes from the Open Mobile Video Coalition (OMVC) which is an alliance of TV broadcasters that are ‘dedicated to accelerating the development of mobile digital television’.

The plan announced at the CES show will bring in the new mobile digital tv service later in the year. Brandon Burgess the president of OMVC said:- “Following a very smooth ATSC Mobile DTV standard setting process, broadcasters are on track to deliver local and national broadcast television to mobile audiences,”

Affiliate stations signed up to the deal include NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX and CW. Phone manufacturers making compatible phones include LG, Samsung, Zenith and Kenwood.

David Rehr, President of National Association of Broadcasters commented:- “Consumers want to utilize mobile devices to follow news and sports, as well as local, regional and national emergency announcements and other content that they have come to expect from their local television stations. The roll-out of mobile DTV will give them the opportunity to experience all of those benefits.”

Customers equipped with compatible receivers will be able to view free tv shows whilst they are mobile. The only problem may be the postage stamp sized screens!
