Flo TV Add Features Including DVR And Interactivity To Mobile TV Platform
Flo TV the subscription based mobile tv service is expanding its service with “new applications that integrate video with web-based content” for distributing “live mobile TV and rich mobile media services to a range of new devices.” In English this means that they will incorporate pay per view, some interactivity and the possibility of DVR capabilities making mobile tv take off.
FLO TV service is available on a variety of devices including mobile phones and the FLO TV Personal Television. The tv signals received by the mobile tv are transmitted by a network of high-power broadcast transmitters operating at effective radiated powers as high as 50 kilowatts allowing for a wide coverage. FLO TV is also available on select mobile phones from AT&T and Verizon Wireless. The FLO TV Personal Television is a stand alone device that uses the AT&T network for its signals.
New service applications will include:
- Addition of Interactive features enabling users to interact with both content advertising, allowing consumers to click for more information about a show or click to buy an advertised product.
- Pay per view – giving viewers the ability to watch the FLO TV service without committing to a recurring monthly subscription. Event passes will provide an easy way for existing FLO TV subscribers to add premium content such as limited engagement, special events to their programming lineup.
- Time-shifted viewing, or catch-up TV allowing popular tv shows to be stored on FLO-enabled mobile devices, thereby granting viewers the ability to watch their favorite shows on-demand, even when out of range to receive signals.
The new features will come available later this year. The mobile and smartphone tv market is hotting up as mobile tv becomes a growing trend. Netflix and Blockbuster have all jumped on the mobile tv bandwagon. And with the iPad launch there will be plenty more mobile tv offerings coming.
