Perhaps eyeing to emulate the eventual success of mobile app game The Simpsons: Tapped Out, Fox animated comedy series Family Guy are set to unveil an official ‘freemium’ mobile game of their own later this year.
Set to be released for both Android and iOS platforms in 2014, the new game, currently untitled, will be developed by TinyCo, with the project described as a part-adventure, part-simulation game that is ‘supported by in-app purchases’.
Such ‘microtransactions’ within the game will include the addition of new characters, abilities, actions, and ‘themed decorations’. All that has currently been revealed plot-wise for the game (which is reportedly operating with the support of voice actors Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis and Seth Green), will see an ‘all-new story’ that is influenced by the series’ ‘history and current events’, with a player journeying through the town of Quahog, meeting characters from the long-running comedy on the way and recruiting or confronting them where necessary.
Of course, the title will join previous less-than-positively-reviewed Family Guy releases such as Family Guy: The Game and Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse in a franchise history, but will the new mobile game be able to follow the pattern of The Simpsons and deliver one of its best-recieved video games in app form?
No word yet on whether the character of
Poochie Vinnie will be involved in this title, but the new dog is now featured in the plural of that word:
