New Face Recognition TV Turns Off When You Sleep
We have all done it, watched a bit too much tv and fallen asleep. Only to wake several hours later cursing all that wasted electricity. But now there is a new tv that cures this age old problem. According to the Guardian, a new Sony Bravia tv makes use of facial recognition technology to check if your having a crafty snooze, and turns itself off.
The ultra energy efficient Bravia WE5 is equipped with all manner of energy saving features, for a start it has a heat and motion sensor that turns off the tv when detecting an empty room, plus an ambient light sensor that senses the lighting getting darker and dims the brightness to compensate.
A spokesman for Sony said:- “If you wander to make a cup of tea you will still be able to hear the TV but it won’t be wasting energy showing the picture,”. As soon as the TV “senses” that you’re back, the picture returns.
Sony says the new micro-tubular HCFL backlight reduces the amount of power used by the set by 50% compared to older LCD television sets The company plans to roll out its “smart” sensor technology to other Bravia 2010 models, along with of course fully equipped internet tv capabilities.
Of course this wonderful technology doesnt account for the people who actually like falling asleep and waking up to a fully working tv channel.
