I was on the iPad the other day and realised something astounding. I have not used my trusty laptop more than twice in the last 3 months! So i got to thinking of why the laptop is for me, now redundant and the tablets reign supreme in my everyday life.

When talking about tablet pc’s there are really only two, the all conquering iPad of course and the Galaxy Tab. Now i know some people love the Tab but i just cannot see past the iPad myself. It does everything i need much slicker than anything else. And yes i know it has no flash support, but who cares? Not me, there are plenty of ways around using flash anyways.

Techcrunch have done a great piece on reasons for having a tablet and they narrow it down to a few reasons that made me say “Yes, tht’s why i use my tablet.”

Tablets are great for movies and music. There’s nothing better in the car for kids than a copy of Cars or Dora on an iPad. Our kids love it and a tablet costs a bit less than installing soon-to-be-obsolete DVD-powered LCDs in the headrest. I also enjoy taking the iPad on a plane for movies, a job that used to go to the iPod Touch.

Tablets don’t crash. Or at least when they do crash it’s not a big deal. A quick restart is is all it takes to get them back on track.

Tablets are good for travel. Tablets usually work with Wi-Fi and 3G networks and the large screen and storage space is great for maps, guides, and dictionaries. Think of your tablet as a Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.

I let my kids play with the iPad in the car and they watch movies, play games etc. And it keeps them quiet. Crashing laptops – My laptop used to always freeze up, crash and burn, and dont even get me going on how long it takes to load up Windows!

The iPad never freezes, it is portable. I can take it anywhere and pick up the WiFi connection and im good to go. Then there is the battery life. I swear i have never turned my iPad off, it lasts for like a whole day with no charging. With all the moving parts and power sucking features of a laptop, your lucky to get an hour and a half before it dies on you.

So it’s great for movies, great for catch up tv, great for meetings and browsing the net. But i think i know the reason above all that the iPad has kicked my laptop into touch. It’s just so damn cool.
