Google have released a remote control app for iOS 3.0 and above for the Google TV platform. The app can be used on iPhone, iPod touch plus the iPad and is free to download from the App Store.

The Google TV platform is installed on Sony Internet TV and Logitech Revue set-top box and uses the Google Android operating system and Chrome browser. The setup blends internet websites and streaming into the big TV.

The app looks pretty good and includes features such as Swipe ‘n’ Tap, Pointer Mode and Voice Control functions. It does the usual remote stuff of changing channels, volume and operating DVR content and is very similar to the Logitech Google TV keyboard controller.

Apple users have been waiting for this app for some time after Google originally launched it for the Android market. However, it appears to not be as good as the Android version that let users fling webpages and YouTube videos from phone to TV. That function is sadly missing.

It may well be the case that Google TV owners would have much preferred the Android Market on their Google TV sets rather than a tv remote app, but you cannot argue with a freebie, can you?.
