Consumers Very Interested In Internet Connected TV Says Survey
A survey of electronic sales staff has revealed that consumers in their stores are showing a high interest in internet connected television, and even better – the sales staff seem to have a good knowledge of the product as well!
Retail salesmen are renowned for not having a clue about items they sell in general, but the connected tv manufacturers can breathe a sigh of relief after the research by Creative Channel Services (CCS) survey which surveyed around 3,600 retail staff in the electronic sector.
The survey found that 80% of respondents know about connected TV hardware, from both the tv sets and the set-top boxes that include the hardware.
When judging consumer interest, 53% said potential buyers were “very interested” in internet connected hardware and devices that deliver a complete multimedia experience. surfing the internet got 40%, using online apps 35%, listening to music 34% and viewing photos 34%.
Said Andy Restivo, CEO of CCS:- “This survey is very telling, the survey highlights the fact that the average retail salesperson carries with them a tremendous amount of product knowledge, even for nascent technologies. As key influencers of consumer purchasing decisions, retail salespeople can drive adoption of cutting-edge technologies and help new products find homes in people’s living rooms.”
It looks like Logitech got their Google TV device priced right as the price users were looking to pay was around $250, and the preference was for a set-top box rather than a new internet-enabled TV or Blu-ray player. The Logitech Revue is priced at $299 currently.
It’s not all good news for connected tv though, 53% of respondents said consumers were not ready to ditch cable/satellite tv for connected within five years. Although 22% said it would be more like 2. So internet tv is making its way into consumers thinking, the hardware is heading into the stores and soon taking over in the living room.
