Will Consumers Go For 3D TV Or Internet Connected TV This Year?

This year is definately the time to be splashing out on a new tv. In one corner is the 3D TV, ready to dazzle and amaze (so long as your wearing the specs). In the other corner are the internet connected TV’s, ready to expand your mind (and content choice). Which one will come out on top?

3D TV is coming to get ya

3D TV is for you if your a tecno-geek, needing to shell out on the latest gadget. The new 3d effects are great, with top movies Avatar and Alice in Wonderland comingĀ  soon. ESPN and Discovery are bringing out 3D content and other networks are all going three dimensional. But of course, it will be a trickle of content to begin with – just like HD TV when first launched. Televisions are coming from Sony, Panasonic and Samsung who are looking to dazzle you with the 3d effect before you get to see the prices.

Internet connected televisions that have inbuilt Ethernet/Wifi, are set to explode into the marketplace this year as manufacturers release 2010 models. These televisions make it simple to access the massive and expanding range of Internet-based streaming from companies like Netflix and Vudu, not forgetting the TV widgets that will bring your PC favourites to your tv screen like Facebook and Twitter, news, weather, traffic, stock quotes and much more

Your internet connected tv could also save you money. Cable companies are dreading their already dwindling subscriber base, cutting the cable andĀ  moving to free internet content and tv on demand. A report by the Leichtman Research Group says that already a quarter of homes have internet connect tv sets

So for now 3D TV has to take a back seat to the internet connected models. If you can remember how the iPhone revolutionised mobile phone with its apps, then you get an idea of how tv will change with internet connectivity.
