Comscore July Rankings Show Google Is Still Video Top Dog

Results for July from Comscore reveal no surprises with Google firmly planted at the top for online video space.Over 143 million unique viewers viewed one or more video’s from a Google site (mostly Youtube) which was a small drop compared to June (144 million). Google viewers watched more than 1.88 billion videos averaging 282.7 minutes of viewing during July. The June figures were 1.81 billion videos and averaged 260.9 minutes viewing time.

Yahoo came second with 55 million unique visitors, who viewed over 238 million videos in July. Yahoo viewers averaged 28.6 minutes of viewing time compared to the previous month of 44.9 million viewers, watching around 139 million videos.c

Youtube still dominate online video viewing

A surprise came from Facebook who came in fifth. The social network drew over 46 million unique viewers in July showing that social networking and tv watching are merging. Facebook viewers saw over 166 million videos in July, compared to 144 million in June. Socially active viewers viewed on average, 18.3 minutes of video.

Microsoft saw good growth in July, notching up 45 million unique viewers, compared with about 39 million in June. It served 219 million videos during the month, and viewers viewing time averaged over 40 minutes.

Hulu came 10th in number of viewers with 28 million, the company was second behind Google in viewer engagement. According to ComScore, the average Hulu user watched 158 minutes of programming in July.

The data showed that 84.9% of the entire US internet audience watched at least one online video in July. The average online video was 4.8 minutes long, whilst the average ad was 24 seconds long.
