Comcast Xfinity App Upgrade Comes to Android
The Xfinity TV app from cable giant Comcast has had an update that allows it to run on Android Honeycomb and Gingerbread OS tablets and smartphone devices.
Although the Xfinity app for Android has been available since last year, some devices and tablets were not supported, which left Gingerbread and Honeycomb users tearing out their hair in frustration.
The app turns the users mobile device into a big TV remote, letting Xfinity customers browse TV listings by area, On-Demand, change channels and set up DVR recordings.
It seems to be an app that cable and satellite companies are replicating around the world. Virgin media launched a similar app on android yesterday.
The app is also available on Apple iOS devices, which has been updated to version 1.5.3 for the iPad and iPhone. That release includes some bug fixes and improvements.
The app is available free from the Android market, but you must be a subscriber to Comcast and have the neccessary set-top box.
