CBS Go For HTML5 Player on iPad Instead of Flash

The iPad is set for imminent launch and CBS have revealed that they are testing videos for Apple’s new baby in HTML5 format. This skips Flash and the inherent problems of showing media on the iPad. CBS have stolen a march on Hulu who were expected to be the first to stream on the new touch tablet pc.

Move over flash, html5 is coming

The move gives the iPad a leg up on much of their competition who have yet to implement HTML5 video embedding, while circumventing Adobe Flash, an offering Apple has long blamed for many of their Safari browsers crash reports. YouTube and Vimeo announced HTML5 support earlier this year which shows that the technology is gearing up to be used widely around the net.

HTML5 is not fully implimented and showing for videos streamed on the CBS.com website yet, however the full screen embedding feature for their videos is up and running and various test videos are popping up. It is expected that many other sites will soon follow using html5, possibly Hulu as well.
