Christina Aguilera is not the only pop star turned singing-competition-show judge to be leaving this year. Britney Spears will be joining the long list of those who have come and gone as judges on the popular competition reality shows. She also joins L.A. Reid who announced last month that he would also be leaving “The X Factor” to steer his record company back on the right track.
“I’ve made the very difficult decision not to return for another season,” Spears said in a statement on Friday. “I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens, but it’s time for me to get back in the studio.” Fellow pop star Christina Aguilera cited the same reason for her leaving “The Voice,” a show on NBC that was in direct competition with “The X Factor” on FOX this season.
Spears earned a whopping $15 million to be part of the judging panel on the show, which was in its second season and ended last month. Spears is the fifth judge to leave the show since FOX began airing it in 2011. Others included Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul, and Cheryl–all three of which were either removed or left for their own reasons after the first season.
Currently Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell are the only two judges left on the panel, so FOX will be busy over the coming months trying to line up two more celebrities or singers to join the judging panel. It is not known if Demi Lovato will be returning for a third season or not. If you missed any of season 2, you can check out highlights online at TheXFactorUSA.com.
