Britains Got Talent Takes Auditioning Online
Britain’s Got Talent boss and judge Simon Cowell is reported to have arranged an extra round of auditions for the show, after claiming to be ‘frustrated’ by the lack of stand-out talent, and is worried that the popular ITV show might lose ratings as a result.
An insider for the show mentioned that the revamped judging panel of David Hasselhoff, Michael McIntyre, and Amanda Holden, have not discovered a high-quality successor to previous winners Paul Potts, George Sampson, Diversity, and Spelbound, or even a match to other break-out stars of previous series, such as singer Susan Boyle.
Cowell has ordered what he plans to be a ‘massive shake-up’ to the format in spite of the fact that it is due to start airing in a few weeks. The big change is said to be that applicants for the extra day of auditions will need to register a YouTube video of their act, in what seems to be an attempt to broaden the available pool of talent.
Britain’s Got Talent sources claimed earlier this week: “Cowell’s announcement is going to turn the show on its head.”
An insider said of what Cowell (who will return as a fourth judge when the week of live shows come on) believes the online auditioning process could do for the profile of the show: “Simon thinks this will be an exciting new dimension for the show for the younger generation.”
An advert for the new auditions, presented by show hosts Ant & Dec has been placed on YouTube in a direct advertising attempt.
