Bravia Connected TV From Sony Gets Makeover

The Sony Bravia range of connected TV’s have just had a firmware update which gives users access to Skype for video calling, a remote control via smartphone, and some social networking action in the form of Facebook and Twitter on the big screen HDTV.

Skype comes to connected TV

If you own a Bravia, it will automatically update the firmware, and bring you all the extra goodies that all connected TV’s should have. In fact Sony have been lagging behind the competition when it comes to these features.

The update will let users make internet voice and video calls via Skype. The Skype option will require additional hardware if you want anything more than text chat though.

Using your phone as a TV remote may come in handy, and now viewers can download Media Remote app for iPhone, iPad and Android makes.

Users can then use the phone as a remote and to use the social networking sites on the TV. Although most smartphones will have their own Twitter/Facebook app, so would anyone really bother?

Hy its gret that Sony is offering all these app’s for TV and its quite handy that you can use all this stuff without switching on to different devices such as PC and phones. So its great.
The problem I have is they have not given enough support material such as how to connect these things. I am trying to connect to skype it just gives me a message connect headphone and camera and I did. It came up with another message that these devices are not supported which is annoying.
Sony should have sent us an updated manual through post or email atleast as they have my address my email and they even know what model I have got, so it should be easy for them.

I am still waiting for my $2000 3D Bravia to update the firmware for these features. I will certainly look at other brands next time as Sony is too far behind Samsung and LG.

i brought my sony internet tv in 2010, im annoyed with sony for not updating the firmware to enable it to do all this. i can not even control my tv from my iphone using imediashare app! does anyone know how to get round this ?

hi there jack sorry bad news i have a sony 32 inch 3d bravia with apps and widgets my youtube netflex webowser vudu but my weather news and stock yahoo widgets some times are availibale then most of the time not available too acess soo i am too having wiget problems too sorry cant help here
