Owners of Roku, the connected set-top box can now access blinkx video’s via a new app available on the online tv box. The new app announced on the Blinkx website, is available on the Roku Channel Store and offers viewers content via four video channels.

The channels are, Sports which has a selection of interviews, highlights and game updates, News for the latest news from around the world, Popular which is a selection of videos from around the web and Fun, consisting of bloopers, stunts, pranks and of course, cute animals.

Speaking about the move, Suranga Chandratillake CEO of blinkx said:- “We’re thrilled to offer the blinkx app, which combines our robust video search technology with our massive index of professionally produced video, to Roku customers everywhere.”

Blinkx are a video search engine claiming 35 million hours of video from around 530 content partners.They recently aquired internet advertising network Burst Media for $30 million to help it better monetize it’s video streaming.

Roku, the low priced streaming internet TV box was launched in 2008,and the channel Store, app store and development environment for long- and short-form streaming entertainment to the TV was launched. With more than 225 entertainment channels – now including blinkx.

The popular box reached a milestone recently, hitting the 15 million channel download mark. They currently have around 225 entertainment channels available for their estimated 1 million customers. The company predict they will have 3 million customers by the end of 2011.

Roku boxes come in three versions, the low end Roku HD for $59, to the $79.99 priced XD which supports 1080p HD and HDMI, to the high end Roku XDS.

The company based in California were selling online only before launching in mainline stores. The box can now be purchased from a selection of retail outlets including Best Buy, RadioShack, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Fry’s Electronics.
