Just 10 months after dismissing his programming from their line-up (and what will most likely be a temporary defection to NBC), the Discovery Channel have welcomed back British adventurer Bear Grylls for a new series.
The show will differ from previous ones featuring the popular host, as Ultimate Survivors aims to uncover the most fascinating real-life tales of battling nature.
While the full format has not yet been publicly revealed, it is thought that Grylls will tell the real stories before demonstrating the ‘dynamic life-saving know-how’ applied to that situation during a replica journey. It is expected that featured locations will include the European Alps, north African deserts, and the Amazon rainforest in South America.
Bear summarised the partnership, stating: “I am super excited to be working with Discovery again – the channel where the Man Vs Wild journey began. Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivors, and any future endeavours, will be intense – but that’s where the fun is! Man Vs Wild took me to some of the toughest climates and terrains out there, and this new series is an exciting evolution of that.”
Discovery Networks International will broadcast and distribute the show worldwide, as their ‘creative director/production & development head’ Julian Bellamy noted: “This show will prove to be a must-see for adventure lovers around the world.”
DNI’s executive vice-president Luis Silberwasser concluded: “We are thrilled to welcome Bear back to the Discovery fold. He is a true game-changer in the survival genre, integral in shaping it into the programming powerhouse that it is today. We are now poised to push the limits even further for our international audience.”
