The creators of BBC fantasy-drama Merlin took the time near the end of their fifth season last year to announce that they had taken the show as far as they wanted to and as such wanted to end production before declining in quality, a decision which the broadcaster accepted in fairly good grace. Ending its story ambiguously, it is the sort of closure that many legacy-protecting fans of TV shows will applaud, but there are of course many who will be left disappointed at the fact there are no new episodes. However, this was nothing compared to the unexpected passion shown from many viewers of the series, who have commented in droves demanding the return of Merlin for a season 6.
The original story on World TV PC regarding the show’s cancellation, published on 26 November 2012, has racked up over 80 comments (87 at the time of writing), almost all of which are written by heartbroken fans longing for a renewal. Even more surprisingly, the story had been online for almost a month with only one low-key comment before the surge of further opinions arrived, presumably after a deluge of searches in reaction to the two-part final episode (“The Diamond of the Day”) concluded on 24 December.
The comments posted over the show have been almost unanimous in support for its renewal either with a sixth series or through a movie, and have continued throughout January as more territories around the world witness the finale.
World TV on PC reader Bilkar Singh wrote: “Can’t believe that this series 5 of Merlin will be its last, I was so looking forward to see the interaction between Merlin & Arthur in series 6, After Arthur eventually finds out Merlin’s secret, but it would seem that to be a dream, they should have drawn up a 10 year contract instead of 5 years, just incase the show was successful. Oh well, anyway I wish the cast & crew all the best for the future & hope there are plans for a movie in the pipeline in the near future.”
Fellow user ‘albian’ wrote: “It’s the best I have seen since Robin of Sherwood in the 1980′s. floods of tears here. I will be changing channels next week.”
Cheree commented: “I honestly thought the series will end on a better note, as well as the show actually being continued. This can NOT be the END!! Me and my fiance are really very disappointed!!”
“Please make the 6 Season, Merlin is so interesting I watch the series in English, even if I don’t understand everything, because I can’t wait until it is translated to my language,” wrote site user ‘Kristina from Germany’, while ‘Natalie’ added: “You’ve got to be kidding me this is ridiculous this show cannot end. It is one of few ‘clean’ shows left of tv and I would hate to see it end like this. Please bring it back it’s my favorite show, just one more season! and then another after that, then another and so on….”
Steve Sanger, the owner of World TV on PC, noted of the high interest in the fantasy-drama: “It is hard for production companies to find a golden nugget, and it seems crazy that when a hit show comes along that catches the public’s imagination – It gets cancelled.”
Having began life on BBC1 in 2008, Merlin ended on 65 episodes and 5 seasons, with the final installment reaching 7.8m viewers in its home UK market. While it has been suggested that there are talks from the BBC to renew the show, will such a move become a reality, or will the many disappointed viewers have to accept the news and move on?

It is extremely disappointing that it was cancelled considering the numerous storylines they have left unexplored, to end it was bad enough but no-one wanted Arthur or Merlin to die, it should have ended with Arthur returning alive to camelot and merlin beside with albion being born. Instead fans are left wanting more and disappointed with the ending of an amazing finale. I will miss “Merlin” greatly but I see no way for it to continue. The series creators squandered S5 by stretching out the story and saving the reveal to the very end. We needed Arthur and Merlin to be together as a team AFTER Arthur found out. We needed to see the “Golden Age” explicitly rather than told it happened during the 3 years off-screen.
It was actually the lure of a POTENTIAL S6 that had Johnny & Julian craft S5 with a last minute reveal. The cast were signed for 5 years. They weren’t interested in a 6th. So this is not on the shoulder of the BBC, it’s on Johnny & Julian. They didn’t make the story compelling enough for the cast to go one more year. I don’t blame the actors remotely. If it hadn’t been for their insistence that they not go farther, we’d still be “keeping the magic secret”.
The two creators used “Smallville” as an example. Smallville stayed around 5 years too long.
So, I’ll miss Merlin terribly. I really wish the best for it’s stars and hope that they all pick up new jobs. But I think it was their insistence to wrap up that at least got us some semblance of closure. J&J just didn’t get it until it was too late.

I was heartbroken when I discovered the BBC was cancelling Merlin. This show is a missing hybrid of quality entertainment, mythology and good ole’ story telling (retelling). I agree with Sue that they squandered season 5. everyone wanted a season where merlin and arthur could actually work together to bring peace to the kingdom, and end the show with magic thriving. they could have had so many fun adventures together where they could actively USE Merlin’s and maybe also other sorcerers magic to help them. there could have been a few episodes dedicated to Arthur slowly accepting and trusting Merlin again, it would have been so rich and powerful but instead they went with over-used plot lines from previous seasons. OH LOOK, someone in the castle who is close to arthur is betraying him *cough* morgana, his uncle, gwen *cough*
also they ended it in a way that would make it almost impossible to continue. they’d have to be like, oh hey, just forget the last 10 minutes of season 5 guys, it didn’t happen that way.
I’m going to miss the show. i wish it would have ended differently, but i’m just going to have to imagine that it ended the way we all wanted it to, and stay in denial about what really happened. Yes The reason why i would like a season 6, Is to see how Arthur adjusts to Merlins magic! My favourite t.v show will not be renewed. There are over 1 million facebook likes on the main plus all the fan pages to bring the show back. The show had great ratings, and the producers said that if there was a want for it, they would make a season 6, they lied.
I am a middle-aged mum with 3 teen-adult kids and we love the show! It was our ritual every week and so disappointing that the producers rushed the ending so. It does not do justice to this incredible series which captured the hearts of millions – to us it was real in our hearts. There must be another season – it was just beginning with Arthur finally finding out about Merlin and in the end, accepting him. Arthur is the great king – how could they kill him off? It seems pointless all the close calls to come to this. But it can easily be re-written. It could easily be written so that all that happened from the crystal caves onwards was merely a premonition Merlin had to warn him that he must get to Mordrid first. Easy!!! Such a shame they are not continuing with Merlin. It was such a fantastic show and I think the actors and actresses are what made it so watchable. I think the ending was not appropriate. Could have been much better especially considering it was to be the last.

The same show that In April 2008, U.S. broadcasting rights were purchased by NBC, This made it the first British drama in over 30 years to be shown on US network television.
It’s such a great show it’s series was broadcasted in 183 countries with Series DVDs, Soundtrack CD’s & all the other Merchandise that was sold I really can not see how in this economic state the show has ended.

In UK Merlin was on at the same time as X-Factor on ITV now if they was worried about ratings then the BBC made a booboo but the views Merlin had on iPlayer was incredible.
Bring back Merlin. Saturdays won’t be the same without it…It’s not fair on the fans who have followed it for the last five year for it to of ended so badly..

Merlin gets help from unknown every time he is in need. Like in “Crystal Cave” “The eye of the Phoenix” “The darkest hour” “the coming of Arthur” “Arthur’s Bane” “The hollow queen” “The dark tower” “etc, then Why can’t he have this time? Everything is possible if u believe. And we can’t know it’s impossible until we try,We all believe Merlin can return.
I think it’s the easiest thing to bring it back for the people who’s job is to make great shows and Satisfy the fans and respect their wishes.

Johnny Capps was interviewed on 12th August 2012 and said that when they’d finished filming Season 5 they were looking to extend into Season 6 and a possible film trilogy. We know now that the films will never be made – not with the original cast members anyway and if that’s the case then what’s the point.
At the end of September 2012 the cast and crew left Pierrefonds and headed back to the UK to finish filming in Cardiff and Claude Albouze, the Director in France, said that everyone wanted Season 6, the cast, the crew, the BBC and ShineTV.
So, when it was announced on 26th November 2012 that Merlin would end with a ‘spectacular finale’ on Christmas Eve here in the UK I don’t think it is at all surprising that fans were left reeling. It was particularly difficult for UK fans to accept as there were only 5 episodes left to air and it didn’t seem possible that the writers would be able to wrap up all the storylines in the time that was left. But we gave them the benefit of the doubt…and we waited.
Fans around the world who were still only on Season 4 weren’t sure what to make of the news that Merlin was ending. They still had a lot of storylines to go through so didn’t really understand the fuss fans in the UK were making. After all, shows end all the time don’t they?
So The Diamond of the Day Part 2 aired on Christmas Eve and I, for one, have never been so deeply affected … grieving is what I said at the time and am still grieving a month later. The writers had said all along that the show would come to its ‘natural conclusion’ but I think we still hoped that they wouldn’t kill Arthur at the end and leave Merlin to roam the country for years all alone.
Since Merlin Season 5 was released on DVD last week here in the UK it has come to light that Julian Murphy and Katie McGrath have done the audio commentary on the final episode. In it, Julian says that in one version of the Finale script they weren’t even going to do the reveal that Merlin had magic! What??? That to me speaks volumes. Is this why the final two episodes feel so rushed? Even Alexander Vlahos (Mordred) has said in interview that he felt it all ended a bit too quickly. There needed to be more of a story for Mordred and Morgana. No, I firmly believe that when they started filming Season 5 they FULLY INTENDED making Season 6.
As each country finally gets to see the last episode their anger is growing too. Merlin has over 20 MILLION viewers world-wide. 20 MILLION! So I expect there will be many, many more complaints to come.
I felt so strongly that the fans deserved a better ending that I joined facebook specifically to be part of a dedicated group working to get Merlin back on our screens. It shouldn’t have ended the way it did, they left so much unexplored especially in my opinion how Merlin and Arthur’s friendship would grow even further now that he knew the truth!!!!! I wasn’t such an avid watcher of Merlin, but I watched a few episodes including the finale, and I was really surprised the show had come to an end. Many of my friends watch Merlin, and they’ve told me about how disappointed they are about the conclusion, and to be honest, I am as well! This series sounds like it has some serious potential, and to just leave it there, when you could do so much more with it, it’s ridiculous. If you are concerned about the profit you will make off the show, I don’t think that will be a problem judging from the number of fans and some (slightly scary) hardcore diehard supporters which will fight tooth and claw to try to bring the show back.
So if you are reading this, Mr Producer, I highly suggest you go find that contract you have, or whatever it is you need to do, and stop waffling around and bring back Merlin!

Upset, annoyed and angry that this first class series ended. One of the few ‘clean, fun, moral, educational, emotional, and suitable for all ages’ shows that have been made in a very long time. There is so much more that can be done regarding story lines, and the producers and all concerned need to get their act together.

The end of season 5 was horrible. They killed Arthur, They killed sir Gwaine.
Magic wasn’t even made legal at the end of the season, not to mention half the knights of the round table are dead. Sir Galahad wasn’t included in the show either and he was a knight of the round table. The great dragon could have sacrificed himself and that caused Arthur, Lancelot, Gwaine and Elyan to come back to lif but accidently bring Morgana and Mordred back too.
They could have made Morgana change her name to Morgan Le Fay.
They need some challenges with Merlin actually using magic in front of them and they could have half or the whole the season with Merlin still using it in secred but the knights and Arthur know and at the end they could end it with a golden age of some kind but thats just one theory on what could happen.
Neverless, there has to be another season, they can’t just end it with Arthur dying and him knowing about Merlin’s magic for 2 days but for viewers it was only like 20 minutes.
Imagine the relief that viewers would feel if there was a season 6 and I am sure that there will be more than one viewer that would be more than willing to give the BBC profit to help out if they don’t have enough.
I was greatly dissapointed in the loss of this show. I have eight kids their are so few family shows we can watch together. This was one we all enjoyed and I never had to worry over the content. I am in America so the end hasn’t happened for us yet I hope BBC reconsiders.
Its sad to see a good show go. This show is one of the few showes I don’t mind my little kids watch. Its a good wholesome show. Please it would be so nice to see it come back. There could be so much more to tell sence Arthur knows merlin has magic.

It’s lunacy that this show was cancelled; the conclusion left me – and I’m sure many (many) other fans – unsatisfied (to say the least). I believe that the show ultimately had to end where it did, but I feel that they rushed it. I think that just one more season could have allowed them the time that they needed to bring the show to an end that the fans could have been more easily able to accept.
Myself and my family like so many others felt cheated at the ending of Merlin, I felt cheated and I was (for the first time in mylife over a show) in utter dispair and completely grief stricken that the BBC and Shine could end this beautiful show on such a horrible downer and all this on Christmas Eve, well It ruined my christmas eve night as did it for my husband and my kids. I have NEVER felt so much passion about a TV series before as I do for Merlin and I like every other loyal fan want to see Merlin picked up for another season. I will admit to being just as disappointed as other fans that Merlin finished after five series. It was a brilliant show, one of the best the BBC has done in a long time. However, as fans of Arthurian Legend will know, Arthur does die at the Battle Of Camlann, and he is killed by Mordred. As soon as the producers said they’d be doing Camlann, I knew there wouldn’t be a series six, and sadly this is something we as fans are going to have to get used to.
Connie – Even though the legend(s) of King Arthur are pretty much well known, the fact is that the battle at Camlann came too soon in Arthur’s life in the tv show Merlin. This is why the fans feel as strongly as they do and there has been such an outpouring of emotion from around the world.
I know lots of people will agree with you when you say that fans need accept that the show is over and move on. Many will say that they were happy with the ending, that to them the sight of old Merlin walking the roads around Glastonbury told them that Arthur WOULD rise again when he was needed and that Merlin would be there waiting for him. But I didn’t see it like that and there are plenty of others, including cast members, who are’t happy with the way it ended either.
I am glad that you enjoyed the show and that you have managed to accept the ending in all its gut-wrenching glory. We, however, don’t accept that it has to be over just because Capps and Murphy wrote it that way. After all, myths and legends are just stories and you can pretty much re-write them however you like – just as Capps and Murphy did.

Please, these writers and producers play fast and loose with this legend and I loved it, they could have done the same with the ending. So what Arthur died at Camlann in the legend, in the “legend” Morderd is his son for crying out loud and Arthur was a baby while Merlin was an old man when he got him. So I as many others thought and expected them to continue with their re-telling even at the end. They just need to admit they rushed it (for whatever reason) and screwed their fams over and then do use some of their own magic and grant so many of us our wish and bring Merlin back. Thanks

I think the Arthur and Merlin’s relationship is one of the main aspects of the show I miss. The brotherhood these two have. I know these kinds of friendships only comes along once or twice in a lifetime IF we are lucky.
Seems like our society today lacks this kind of respect and integrity between one another and to see it on screen gives one hope that it is out there.
This show gave us so much hope in so many different aspects, love, friendship, brotherhood, sisterhood, hope, integrity, spirituality(whether on purpose or not) and many others, and with the ending they gave, most of those were crushed while others left unfulfilled.
I do so miss this show and all that it brought to my life. I do believe the actors had a great care and respect for one another and that’s what came across on the screen that made this show so AWESOME!!
I believe it should be brought back and give the world what it needs the most, love, friendship and HOPE!!

When i read, that Merlin is ending, i couldn’t belive it. And then, i cried for hours. This show is for me everything. Because of Merlin i met lot of good friends. This isn’t just some show, it was (and still is) my life.
The story is brilliant, actors are awesome and everything is just so perfect. So please, if there’s any chance for Merlin to come back, it would be the best thing in the world!
When i watched the finale episode on Christmas Eve, it was awful. Yes, the episode was brilliant, it had everything in it! But i was just thinking, it was the last time, i’d ever seen Merlin on TV and it is so sad.

Season five of Merlin was very very very disappointing! Half of the episodes were foolish and unnecessary. Your fans wanted to see Merlin’s destiny come true. We wanted to have more shows with Merlin’s secret revealed and Arthur’s acceptance of him. We DID NOT want four episodes of Gwen trying to kill Arthur and we definitely did not want Arthur to die the way he did. Talk about breaking your fans hearts. Best show in the universe. Even better than Lost! However we were ripped off with that last series.
So very disappointed that no. Season 6 and very angry actually as well!

Please, Please, our family LOVES Merlin, and my 4 year old has been watching it since he was in my tummy! Merlin is his hero! Please bring back many more seasons. It’s a wonderful unique show with fabulous characters, adventures and stories.

Please bring Merlin back, it’s one of the best shows on TV!!!! I’m 45 and have watched it from the beginning and so have my parents, in their late 60′s. It’s a show for everyone, young and old. Everything from the production quality to the acting is top notch, A+, and completely brilliant. Never has a show with this much scope been done this well. The locations are perfect, the castle, the horses, the clothing, swords and armour all fit together so well you believe Camelot truly exists.
I have bought every season on DVD so far and will continue to buy anything else they make, I’ve even bought the soundtracks, having to buy imports from Amazon.com.
I state again, please bring this show back, I cried when I heard it was over and will miss it so much I will have to watch my DVDs over and over just to feel like it’s still on. I believe there’s so much more story to tell that it could easily go on 5 more seasons and even carry on in movies as well. I was a fan of Stargate SG-1 and was so glad it lasted 10 seasons, I have the entire series on DVD and I bought both the movies as well. I’ve gone to over 14 conventions for the show and continue to follow the actors careers. I feel the same for Merlin, this is a show that has so much to say about our lives, virtue, honesty, truth and commitment that to end it now seems ridiculous and unjustified. The fans are here, we’re ready to watch, we’re commited to this show and everyone involved with it, please don’t take it away!!!!!
If, as Julian Murphy said in November 2012, the intention was ALWAYS to finish Merlin at the end of Season 5 then why did he say in May 2012 (two months into filming) that there could possibly be a 6th Season??:

Surely if the intention had ALWAYS been to finish at the end of season 5 then they should have said so at the outset and not kept on about possible further seasons or movies.
I agree with what some of the other contributors on here have said. Get better script writers and producers who care about the actors and the characters.
I am very disappointed with the audio commentary on Season 5 DVDs as there are constant references to sexuality, homoeroticism and lesbianism so be warned if you normally let your children listen to these. Particularly the commentary for the very last episode by Julian Murphy and Katie McGrath which I found particularly offensive towards the actors and about symbolism in the show in general. I am glad he can have no further involvement in Merlin.

As much as I’d love for Merlin to come back, I see no way in which they can bring it back after such a spectacular ending.

It did not end on a high….so many fans are dissapointed and much more fans will be dissapointed after seeing the last episode. In some countries season 5 will start soon, in other countries the last episode of season 5 will end soon.
I got the impression something happened in the background and the producers and writers hurried up to end this show. But this end was a slap for all Merlin fans, waiting five years for something spectacular and not only for Arthurs death….

Well, the truth and was willing to see and accept it as the final out but then I saw her and thought it could not end like this, it is impossible for the cut to that end, I think almost everything in the story was unreal, and just the end and did horrible if the real (death of Arturo) I hope you can continue with the series, is really good, the simple fact that they have people in my country (Colombia) makes it awesome, watch merlin was a great experience, and I hope to keep it cool!

I believe that the actors didn’t sign for a 6th Season because they weren’t happy with the scripts for Season 5. Of course, they can’t say that when they’re still working on the show. And don’t forget, it’s hard work for eight months of the year so by the end of every season they were saying how tired they were. BUT they were always happy to turn up for filming for the next season.
I agree with Titi – there is absolutely no excuse for being aggressive or rude towards any actor whether they be in Merlin or any other tv series and it is disappointing that people (I won’t call them fans) feel the need to put such things in writing for everyone to see.
I respect anyone who says they were happy with the way Merlin ended and feel strongly enough about that to post here. We cannot all be the same or feel the same way because that would make life very boring. But respect goes both ways.
Season 5 was not as good as I thought……not only the end….the whole season!

That is right, a true FAN respect the private life of the actors and their decisions…..and also the other fans…..but we do not know if the actors really wanted to quiet this show or why they wanted to quiet….(we only can see interviews…but may be some of the actors want to continue, some of them not and do you know if they can say what they want in this interviews??).

I too thought the ending was rushed and it felt like it was thrown together. Kinda, well…we gotta finish this so how do we do it? TBH I don’t think all the actors wanted out. From interviews I’ve seen I heard some say they would love to continue with the show. I’m sure some did needed a break and after some time away they will be willing to return. Give them a great script and a huge number of fans who desperately want them back, how could they refuse.
Either way we NEED more Merlin and a better ending than what we got.
Let’s pull together and put the work in and make some noise and make it clear that we want/need more Merlin.
Merlin is my families favourite TV show. We have bought all the Series on iTunes and are also ordering the box sets from Amazon to see the behind the seens etc. The whole family cried when Arthur died in Merlin’s arms.
There was so much life left in the show and the ending did feel rushed. So little time was given to Arthur knowing about Merlin’s magic we would have loved to see more of that.
Deeply sad that it ended.

I’ll tell ya what’ outrageous. This weekend here in the States the “superbowl” will be played. Do you think I can sit and watch it with my child? NO! Why? Because of the commercials they will be showing. Filthy, gross, disgusting and not fit for human eyes, yet they want to cancel the best program I’ve come across in a VERY long time. One that I feel very comfortable tuning into and having my family sit together and having quality time. Why, when something so well written and produced and do they feel the need to yank it out from under us. Maybe it was an actor or producer or whatever that didn’t want to continue but ending a show is such a way as they did left not only the children with a feeling of evil winning over good but it left us parents with the loss of a show that teaches bravery, loyalty, integrity, caring, and a chance for our kids to see what love really is (and it isn’t about sex). I’m just errrrggggah right now. Bring back this wonderful show with it’s wonderful cast (who made it a JOYFUL time of television).
I can not believe this show is ending, it’s been a time of fun, joy and hope. I saw the ending of the series online and I’m devastated and more that heart broken. I feel an emptiness and loneliness as it seems they’ve left Merlin with as well. I see no reason to change the tune of the series from doing things their own way (which I truly enjoyed) to doing the end the “Arthurian Legends” wrote things. I feel things need to be made right, according to show originally started out, doing their own spin on Merlin and Arthur. Give the loyal fans the story they were looking forward to for 5 years, the promise of an Golden Age where Arthur reigns with Merlin at his side with Magic being accepted.

I just want to say what this show gave to me : Tears, Hope, Loyalty, Honesty, Pain, Anger, Friendship, Faith, Fun.
And this are only a few things, that I listed right now. I was so upset when I watched the last episode.. it was like a stab to the heart, so painful. :’( I never watched a TV show and over ALL I never cried for one. I never watched a TV show for so long and I didn’t want, for nothing on this earth to miss ONE episode! And today when I re-watch all the old Episodes, all these things that has been promised to us in all these years, I am just disappointed. I can only say that they structured the last season really bad, if it wasn’t for the FANTASTIC acting of the cast (especially Colin Morgan) I would have quit watching this season after 6-7 Episodes, after I watched the end I WAS regretting to have ever watched this show, but then I thought and told to myself “what are you talking about?! YOU LOVE this show, you can’t regret to have started watching it”. My opinion is, the Fans LOVE this show to much, to let it go like that, it was not the end, that this show deserved. Please bring it back, this is a family show where all the FAMILY comes together and watch something that has QUALITY and nowadays, it is really rare to watch movies/tv shows that leaves you something ‘special’ in your heart. I don’t know if this message will be ever read by someone of the BBC, but I can say, Merlin will be forever in my heart, it left me beautiful and “bad” memories. I will never forget anything about this show and I am proud to be a part of this fandom, because I know, in some way we all feel the same about this show.

This is the ONLY series I used to watch on TV. Reading some of the comments, it’s obvious that the reason why we all got so attached to the series is that it brought our childhood memories back! The characters had a lot of charm, too. All this time we were waiting for Arthur to finally get to see the “real” Merlin and were already imagining how their relationship would be after that, when all of a sudden the series ends.
This is MEAN, besides being a STUPID decision. The series has millions of fans, even in Turkey where I live. And just when it delivered what we were hoping for all this time, the creators decide they can just dump the fans and slip away with the truckloads of money they’ve made thanks to us!
We need a 6th season (and many more after that)! We want our magical and affectionate universe back! Let this be heard by whoever decides on such things!

The whole series was about protecting Author so he can bring peace and magic back to the land. It ends with him dead and magic being almost completely gone forever. I guess you could look at the ending optimistically, but the whole series was very poorly written.
The driving force, I believe, was the cast and original concept, nothing more.

I still can’t believe the way that Merlin ended, it felt so rushed and so without closure. Mordryd and Morganna’s deaths were disappointing enough considering how much hype they got and why were the Dragons never given a proper ending. Kilgarrah was dying but a reason is never given for what happened to him and Aithusa. You never even see them in the same scene together. Arthur dying is just terrible and sloppy writing, some of the best bits of the season were in the last part where Merlin and Arthur talk and while the emotion was excellent they should have been given a lot more time on screen to develop it. Nope I loved Merlin but the BBC has annoyed me to no end with this waste of an ending. They cancel this show but keep stuff like Big Brother on. There is something seriously wrong with TV.

I found Merlin on Netflix in December. My family and I gave it a shot and were immediately hooked. Every night I announced to the family that it was time to see what Merlin was up to. We watched all the episodes that Netflix had to offer. I began a search to see if season 5 was available anywhere. I live in the US and season 5 is not yet available. What I did read, by accident, was how season 5 ends. I was shocked, hurt, and saddened. I can’t even share this news with my family because they haven’t seen any of season 5.
I feel as if I lost a dear friend. PLEASE give Merlin a proper ending. We need a happy ending to this wonderful tale. There is enough sadness and heartache in the world. We watched this to escape all that. We need to see good triumph over evil and the hero be victorious.
Merlin finished here on Christmas Eve and two months later I am still grieving it’s loss. One of the best programs ever. I’ve been following Merlin since it first aired in 2008. All that we had been led to believe throughout the series was Merlin’s Destiny, that when Arthur became King, Magic would be accepted in Camelot. What happened to that?! 10 mins during the very last episode is RIDICULOUS.. It was a rushed and bodged ‘end’.. when so many of the episodes were ‘wasted’ on old plot lines. Come on writers.. you can do better than that!!

First of all I hope that my English is more or less ok. I’m not used to write in English and I don’t think any of you can understand me if I wrote this in Swedish…
I don’t know if BBC read our messages but in my opinion; the fifth Merlin series was a disaster and very tedious. I think that the BBC-writers had misunderstood the story. The name was (and hopefully will be) Merlin! Not Morgana! So, Please BBC! Make a sixth series. Use the legend and let Arthur return to life – remember that England’s great writer, A. Conan Doyle had to resuscitate Sherlock Holmes! His readers demanded that.
Let the Sidhe/Vilia, who earlier cured Merlin, cure Arthur, (You can read about the celtic Sidhe in this book, ISBN 0936878053, by John Matthews) and let even Gawain come back. It seemed to me that he rather fainted than died, and let them all have some wonderful adventures together now that all know about Merlin’s gift, like that episode there Arthur and Merlin met Gawain the first time – and … what happened with the Fisher king’s land?
By the way. There is one fantastic part of the Merlin production that never has been mentioned anywhere and that is the music! It’s extremely well composed, wonderfully orchestrated and used in the series.
In my eyes the whole meaning of the production was that Merlin in the end demonstrated his abilities for all in Camelot, and Arthur, Merlin and the other friends after that would have some wonderful adventures together.
And. One curious thing was when the ‘baby dragon’ was born the dragon said to Merlin that this little white baby dragon will bring fortune to Camelot. Well, he didn’t. Why? So, please BBC! Time for a sixth season…
A good idea for the BBC’s Merlin writers, as I can understand the difficulties, is to ask the public for ideas to the episodes.
Colin/Merlin and Bradley/Arthur and the others have now become my friends and I do not want to lose them! Do you? And for me, they are like two brothers who, after all, deep down love and respect each other!

Please bring the show back. There are many loyal fans who were not rewarded with the way this show had ended. Merlin should have had another season where Merlin’s power is revealed. It is unfair how the season ended! It was all for nothing! This should not have been the end and the story should have wrapped up with magic being practiced in Camelot and its people having Merlin as their protector and Arthur as their king.
Our family was just like Sydney’s (posted on the 24th of February). We started watching Merlin on Netflix and we *love* the show.
One of the greatest things that my wife and I have found about the show is that the writing (so far, we are in season 1, episode 8) has not devolved into sensitive issues (i.e. se*uality).
This way our young sons can watch it. Please BBC, bring it back. We want to watch them all.

although in the arthurian legends arthur does die, there are plenty of scenes the writers have altered that didn’t go according to the legends (i.e. Sir Lancelot). i just don’t see how they could let it end like this.

Less than 45 minutes of an agonizing Arthur that the most powerful sorcerer on Earth can’t even heal or transport a bit faster to the lake. Seriously? I mean, come on! Merlin and Arthur are a duo, the most wonderful team ever! We wanted to see them fight together, not watching Merlin cry, powerless, as his best friend dies exactly as it was prophesied! Makes you wonder…what was it all for, if Merlin and Arthur can’t even appreciate the full extent of everything they did for Albion?
I’ve been watching Merlin from the very first episode, and I’m so angry at BBC for pulling it out before the finale. I’LL NEVER WATCH ANY PROGRAM ON BBC AGAIN. What you did was very cruel to us faithful viewers.
So the Magic has gone out of the writers.
They will not write anything new on Merlin or elsewhere. They have no more new thoughts – Life ends as young adults with only the doldrums to live out.

I would hate to see this show go away. I went through a lot of trouble to watch this last season because I live in the USA, where it doesnt even really broadcast and I finally catch up on the episodes just to find out that it got cancelled. It seems that if a show seems good and clean then its doomed to be cancelled. Everything else on TV seems to be a pathetic mind numbing reality show or sit-com. I have pretty much given up on today’s TV Broadcasters, I guess Ill just stick with my netflix and continue to boycott the Cable Television crap.

Merlin cannot end this way . Why didn’t they use season 5 to let Arthur discover merlin magical powers at the beginning . Arthur could then realize what merlin all did for him. And the end of the story could then mean a magical fight between morgana and merlin.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the demise of this program. A program that we truly appreciated and enjoyed. We have yet to watch the final episode as it airs here this evening and we will look forward to watching together as a family shortly.
We have tried to look ahead as we did not want to see or hear any spoilers as we can not believe the biggest spoiler of all and that is the end of the program.
So to the cast and crew of Merlin, we say a very sad goodbye and only hope and pray that the ‘powers’ that be will hear the sounds of the fans and bring it back… of course that is if that is what the cast and crew would like as well…

Just watched the last episode last night and so sad to see that this series is over.Our family has been watching it since the first episode and have never missed an episode. Sad to see trash shows continue and good family shows like Merlin cut short of what would be an epic program for years to come.I do wish it would continue but can only make a comment to voice my dissapointment to see such a show end. Sad to see a show made by BBC better than shows here in Canada and terminated. Sad to see it end…..please continue the series….always a fan
i’m in Canada and I’m so disappointed in the ending of a great series. Obviously the producers are unable to see the huge international fan base and how popular the show is, or a decision to continue with season 6 and more would be an accomplished fact. Arthur and Merlin need to have the relationship we have all waited to see. Please reconsider and bring this show back be it in Arthurian era or in the 21st Century, Albion needs Arthur!
The BBC are just hypocritical morons, all channels gauge viewings on their respective programmes and renew if it does well but with regards to merlin they didn’t bother, it was popular here and in the states, also got ratings to more than justify a sixth season and the excuse to not renew was piss poor at best. To cancel a show that’s done so well deserved a sixth season and many are lobbying for it to happen so hopefully they will renew if they had an ounce of common sense.

Our young family has LOVED watching Merlin together. It is rare to find a good quality wholesome show the whole family can enjoy. We are watching it on Netflix right now and have reached Season 4. I will be in mourning when we finish the last episode of season 5!

I have just finished watching the whole series from the start. I was hooked after the first few episodes. I feel absolutely gutted with with the ending. I am a grown man and felt like crying, it has saddened me so much. At least one new series should be made just to end the series on a high. It is amazing how far the love of Merlin has spread. It only aired on American TV for a year, but I went out of my way to find the series after. I agree that this is the best TV show ever made. As a true die hard Merlin fan I was very disappointed with the rushed ending. However, unlike all of you, I still think there’s hope for a season 6.
Here’s why. Just because someone dies doesn’t mean they can’t be brought back to life. Gaius mentioned something about the Shee people having the power to resurrect the dead (without using dark magic).
I thought a good finale would have been Merlin giving his life to the lady of the lake (who truly does trap him in the real legend out of her love for him; fraya in the show) in return to save Arthur. Then Arthur returns to camelot and unbans magic but lets Gaius head a court to determine good magic from bad magic etc. Then Gaius could release merlin from the lady of the lake with magic and season 6 could be the GOLDEN years. As far as villains you could have some stipulation that Mordrid drank from the cup of life and only Excalibur could kill him. Then Kilagros the aging dragon takes in Ethusula the baby dragon and raises it to be good but with Mordrif trying to corrup it it the whole season and trying to bring Morgana back as a wraith or a shade.
Oh well. I’m just a fan. Not a writer.
I am dead set sick of amazing shows being canceled. But this isn’t about the others I’ve gotten hooked on and having them taken away to shortly. This is about how all I’ve amung many others I know and have read are very disappointed with how they have ended this. Have been watching and dreaming of the day Merlin tells Arthur he has magic. And I just finish season 5 to find season 6 is a no go. After Merlin finally tells Arthur. This is bull. I’m lossing my faith in the people whom make shows or air them. as I belive there made or aired by people who don’t know a great show when it slaps them in the face. No way a show as great as Merlin can be left like this. I for one am highly disappointed in the entertainment people of this day and age. I say they should do a movie. By now most fans who have seen the final episodes and/or bought the dvds for their commentaries will understand that no-one cancelled the show. But I think it speaks volumes that fans are STILL posting here and asking for more episodes FOUR MONTHS after the finale aired in the UK. This show was more than just an escape from reality TV and more than just a fantasy. We fell in love with these characters and WE WANT MORE! What happended to the building of Albion…still only HINTED at during Season 5? How come the “White Dragon that bodes well for Albion and the future that Arthur and Merlin will build” … in the end, didn’t?? Why, when the show had nothing in common with any Arthurian legend, did it have to revert to legend for the end? It just doesn’t sit right. WE NEED MORE!!

Al parecer la BBC no lo quiso así, ojala cambien de idea y se logre hacer esa 6ta temporada que todos queremos ver con un Arturo ¡VIVO! Y conocedor del secreto de Merlin.
to stop Merlin was a biiiig mistake !!!! BBC you have angered many ppl from all over the world and in so they will just Not trust any show from you . you titled Merlin as a family show I would NOT let any child / teen or any one see the last episode.
and NO BBC unlike what you say the show did not revert to the legend in the end AS YOU know the legend dasn’t end like this .

just saw finale, such a waste of a fine show. it was all so ..they could have..it was too soon with all the.. will we ever know about..? it was gonna get real good but…its all so depressing. anyway, a semi truck & merlin in final scene , i loose that bet every time.
My family is sad this series was cancelled and would love to see it come back. We found it on Netflix and were hooked. It is one of the few shows we can enjoy as a family, and yet it interested each and every one of us. One of the best written, well played series in a long, long time. I too would be thrilled to see it come back for another year (and more). Thanks for the show BBC while it lasted. An all time family favorite!
This Is Very Typical Of The BBC Network just when you start to LOVE And ENJOY A Series they end it To Quote The Brits “What The Bloody Hell Is Wrong With You” Merlin should come back it is one of the best programs on your network if not the BEST If You Need to get rid of something PLEASE End That Orphan Black Rubbish It Is pure CRAP And Needs To Go. I come from Germany and simply love Merlin. There aren’t many British shows that make it over to Germany but this one was a real hit. I’m devistated that there won’t be a sixth series!!! Please guys, change your minds!!!
I moved to england just 8 weeks ago and found out the real reason they canceled merlin they lost the two main characters aurther and merlin to another show or movie it is very upsetting and i have a huge crush on merlin aka collin morgan i realy love the show but will never watch the last two episodes and lady morgana is dating merlin
please resume the 6th season of Merlin…it is the best show we have ever seen in the past 20years…it cannot end like this….

There are so many ways that they could usher in a season 6..example(Aurther was not the real Aurther, but someone else under a spell…hehe..”And now for what really happened to Aurther at the end of season 5″…….yes another great season would be largely accepted with open arms. There’s always hope!

I just finished watching all seasons and episodes of Merlin. I was amazed at how well it turned out, it had become one of my favorite shows, considering I watch 23 shows a year and Merlin being within the top 3, I’d say you have done a hell of a job, BUT the way you left off…. well I will say it was a great ending however, I had hoped that we would see Merlin save Arthur they would return to Camelot and we could see the bond between the two boys change and grow, I would have really liked to see how they brought magic back and the struggles they would face in trying to filter out the bad from the good.
This show made me laugh, cry, smile, angry, I truly felt as though we as viewers could feel so much of what the characters were going though that it made it realistic enough to us that our emotions responded accordingly. I hope to see the show picked up, or to see a movie made. I can’t express how well I think you would do or how pleased you would make the fans. Ending a show like Merlin after the fans have become so attached only makes them shy away from future shows, for fear, that it will only end in the same way.
Merlin was my favorite show and it really disappoints me to hear that they have canceled it. Like it even better then Doctor Who!

this is unbelieveable, i am so so disappointed how can it be that the only movie am interested on is to end this way No it can’t be please i need more season of this marlin because i was thinking that that camelot is about who marlin is and honor him for his might. Disappointing… I’ve been hesitant to watch the final 5th season cause I’d been hearing about the end very bluntly from my friend (who refused to spoil it to me). I know I’m among fans who have since season 1 been waiting and at the edge of my seat for the episode when Merlin would reveal his magic to Arthur. And they end it just like that, killing Arthur? That…drains all my desire to bother with the 5th season. I might pretend it doesn’t exist… -__-
Cancelling merlin is really heartbreaking. Devoted fans have followed growing each year. You don’t leave a show with people wanting more in the sence of anger for it back. Theres so much to tell. So much further you could go. I mean even just an alternat season 5. There are differnet futures to be told why not have fun with that? You leave a crowd of loyal fans satisified and hapoy, not sad or dissapointed wanting more so badly.

I can’t believe the show is over!! I literally cried when I found out they were cancelling it!!!!! It is such an AMAZING show with action and adventure and most importantly, magic! There are so few good shows anymore, but this one is just great. I really wish they decide to bring it back!!! If they do I will be sooooooo happy! Although if they don’t……I wish the best of luck to the actors, they are all so amazing so I am looking forward to see if they will be in any other movies or shows. ‘Merlin’ is great and I with cry with tears of joy if they brought it back!
I am more than sad, I am mad. I watched all of these years, waiting to see the interaction between Arthur and Merlin, only to have them kill Arthur off and walk away. I heard about it before it hit the US airwaves, I went on line, fast forwarded to the end in time to see him die and that was the last I viewed of any of the Merlin series. I refused to spend one more second of time devoted to a franchise who could care less about the fans. The writers, the producers … I will never, ever watch any other projects they have anything to do with and will try to stay away from anything the BBC has it’s hands in as they just don’t give a rats butt about completing a story line, just dump it in the middle and walk away. It was the worst of all possible choices to end anything. HATED IT!
I am very disappointed with the cancellation of the Adventures of Merlin.Please consider to produce season 6.We love the movie so much.
