Australia Plus7 Catchup TV Service To Join PS3
Sony’s Computer Entertainment Division in Australia will add the Yahoo7 Catchup TV service Plus7 to the PS3 before the month is out. Other channels could also be in the pipeline.
Yahoo7′s Plus7 will join with ABC’s popular iView service on the PS3′s Cross Media Bar and will complement the PlayTV add on for recording free to air digital TV broadcasts.
Sony’s Australia managing director Michael Ephraim told Screen Play back in May that the PlayTV personal video recording device and the ABC’s iView on Playstation 3 have been very successful and had helped bolster the console’s multimedia credentials.
The news comes shortly after Sony announced a number of UK Catch up tv services were to launch on PS3 in the UK. Mr Ephraim confirmed that Sony is in discussions with other Australian TV networks about more Aussie catch up TV services on the PS3.
“We are definitely working hard to hopefully launch one or two (additional) services before the end of the year,” Said Mr Ephraim. “As you know, that space is heating up.”
“Content owners are looking at their options and they are realising that they need to be on as many devices as possible. PS3 delivers 850,000 now, will be at least a million before Christmas, and more and more of those are connecting.”
“I think content owners are starting to realise that PlayStation 3 can open up their content to a lot of people, as we did with iView. We’ll have the best brand and the best content at the time, they are all moving ahead very quickly to fix those issues up with what Channel 10 is doing now, and so on. We’re definitely in conversation with others to deliver more content.”
Sony also said yesterday that “music videos published by EMI would now be offered on the PS3′s VidZone service.”
EMI artists that feature on the VidZone sevice include the likes of Coldplay, Katy Perry, Iron Maiden, David Guetta, David Bowie, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Empire of the Sun and Jet. There are now in excess of 25000 videos on service.

I noticed Plus7 on my PS3 yesterday – it had 18 videos in total and mostly sat with a waiting to connect symbol – never had any problems with iView from ABC. Today Plus 7 isn’t an option any more.
