While some actors will do plenty of unorthodox things to try and promote their new movies, Austrian-American action star Arnold Schwarzenegger has gone for a simple yet highly effective approach, as he released a set of quick-fire but highly effective videos on YouTube.
For videos in which only one line is spoken, it of course helps greatly if those lines are some of the most famous movie quotes of all-time, and moreso if they are performed by the same person many years on.
The former bodybuilder announced the idea during an AMA session with his fans on Reddit, noting that (amongst other videos such as fitness advice) he will record himself performing a number of short line requests, which he did across 8 clips released on his official YouTube page on 18 October. The lines are noted as being recorded behind-the-scenes at Schwarzenegger’s upcoming zombie film Maggie, though the release came with promotion of current release Escape Plan.
He wrote of his plans beforehand: “Whenever I go to an event, someone asks me to yell out one of my lines. Even when I walk into Starbucks, people scream at me to ‘Get to the choppa’. So to celebrate Escape Plan hitting theatres today, since I’ve already done an AMA and a Fitness AMA and I pop in on /r/fitness when I can, I thought it would be fun to offer myself to yell out all of your favourite lines.”
Away from acting, former Governor of California Schwarzenegger is rumoured to be planning a challenge on the American constitution in order to make himself (a foreign-born American citizen) eligible for presidential election. One of the perks of that job, of course, is his own choppa…
The quotes in full (each of which have received over half a million views at the time of writing), along with the original versions of them (and more), quotes from co-star Sylvester Stallone, and the trailer for their new film Escape Plan can all be seen below:
