Apple Struggling To Secure Content For The iPad

Its all good and well having the latest gadget around, but it’s not worth a bean if it has nothing to run on it. Apple, it is reported by The Wall Street Journal are still trying to secure deals with content and media companies. The iPad is set to launch offering $1 downloads, but it is reported that content providers are weary of the strategy. Will iPad have any content at launch?

The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple are desperately trying to secure media content deals with production houses, newspapers and books publishers along with other media content providers, as the ‘potential collaborators’ are still trying to determine whether they should partner with Apple or not.

One of the sources, speaking to the Journal, said that the company was far away from securing a deal with media companies, which might allow future iPad users to download TV programs at a lower rates.

It’s also reported that some publishers and TV executives are concerned the iPad doesn’t support Adobe’s Flash video player, which most publishers use to stream content and is also an underlying technology of online advertising.

Apple who revolutionised the way people listened to music by its iPod device and have had enormous success with the iPhone has not managed to strike deals with newspaper publishing houses for providing content for the device, as it was promised by Steve Jobs at the unveiling of the tablet device in January 2009.

There has been a massive amount of hype surrounding Apple’s new iPad, and although reviews have been mixed, pre-sales demand for the tablet pc is high. In fact, interest is at a higher level than it was before at pre-launch the famous iPhone.

Content providers may wait and see who comes out on top with internet tv software, from Boxee to the new Google TV everyone is jumping into online tv. Although the iPad will be an important market, it will still be a ‘niche product’ and possibly deemed not that important a deal.
