Apple And ITV In Battle Over New Apple iTV
ITV and Apple could be heading to court over Apples plan to call its new online TV product iTV. UK broadcaster, ITV own the trademark and have built a brand around the ITV name.
The computer phenomenon Apple are apparently all set to re-launch its set top box under the new name to fit in with other i-products range.
But the ITV bosses are furious and are meeting with their lawyers this week to try to stop the move in the UK.
The broadcaster, who owns the trademark to the name ITV in Britain, will also weigh up its options on a total ban.
An ITV insider has said: “You only have to look at recent problems with the iPhone 4 to see not everything Apple produces is gold dust. We all take our ITV brand very seriously and we’ll do everything in our power to protect it.”
Apples settop box, currently called Apple TV, allows users to download movies and TV shows from iTunes to watch on their home TV sets.
Its new device will also include internet capabilities and allow users to download apps and iTunes.
Apple said: “Apple does not comment on rumours and speculation.”
