Google have given the mobile versions of it’s video app an update that will initially help advertisers, by keeping viewers focused on their message with additional video and information.
The update which is available for both android and iOS, offers Call-to-Action overlays allowing content providers to share additional information about their video, including links to other videos and websites.
Although access to the overlays (which launched on Youtube’ s website last year) are only for Adwords advertisers in at present, Google say they will become available for use on any Youtube channel later in the year.
This latest version 1.4 of the YouTube app has also had some tweaking and fixes along with closed captions availability for live streams.
As the official blurb from Google says, “Get the official YouTube app for iPhone and iPad. Stay up-to-date with trending videos and connected with your favorite YouTube channels. Learn and enrich yourself on any topic. Sign in to personalize your experience: get the latest videos from your subscriptions, personalized recommendations, access your playlists, uploads and easily share with friends.”
New features and improvments include:-
- Video suggestion overlays for what to watch next
- Closed captions for live streams
- Stability improvements, including fix for application crashes
