Amazon Sell A Million Kindles Per Week In December Led By Kindle Fire
Amazon have revealed that the Kindle range of tablets have sold a million units for every week in December, led by the Kindle Fire. Real good news for Amazon, and bad news for the rival Apple iPad.
Amazon revealed that the best sellers sold from the Amazon website were the Kindle Fire followed by Kindle Touch and standard Kindle. The company said in a statement, “We are grateful to our customers worldwide for making this the best holiday ever for Kindle.”
The stats show that since day one of December, customers bought on average around a million Kindle devices per week. The Amazon Kindle Fire which was launched in November was the top seller.
The companies success was not just down to the hardware, but also the massive content base they have. Between the days of Black Friday and Christmas, Kindle book interest was up by 175%, compared to 2010.
As so many people got a kindle in their Christmas stocking, it was no surprise that on Christmas Day, Kindle book downloads was the highest it has ever been.
Apple may be getting a little nervous as well, the current sales rate means that the Kindle is beating the iPad’s sales at a similar period in it’s lifecycle. Could explain why they have been rumored to launch 2 new iPad’s this month.
