Amazon Prime members can now follow the escapades of high-school student and wannabe private investigator, Veronica Mars. In a deal with Warner Bros Domestic Television, Amazon get exclusive streaming rights to all three seasons of the popular show.
The Veronica Mars movie came about thanks to a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign driven by fans of the television show. The series follows a teen high-school student (Kristen Bell), who moonlights as a private detective whilst trying to find out why her best friend Lily Kane died.
Speaking about the show, Amazon’s director of digital video content acquisition Brad Beale, said in a statement, “The Veronica Mars series has been popular on DVD and Amazon Instant Video for years, so we know how much Amazon customers love this iconic television show.”
Fans that want to buy the DVD boxset would need to shell out over $90 for the 3 seasons, which makes an Amazon Prime membership at $79 for the year seem a good deal.
He continued, “We are excited to become the exclusive subscription streaming home for Veronica Mars and to be able to offer the entire TV series to Prime members to enjoy at no additional charge. With the movie coming on March 14, both die-hard fans and new viewers can easily catch up on this great show.”
Speaking for Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution president Ken Werner said, “We are thrilled to have Prime Instant Video as a digital distribution outlet for the Veronica Mars TV series. Digital distribution platforms such as Amazon’s and licensing deals such as this allow the consumer great opportunities, whether they’re die-hard fans who just can’t get enough or a new consumer turned fan who has discovered a fabulous show with dozens of new episodes.”
Amazon’s deal with Warner Bros. Distribution is the latest exclusive pact inked by the streaming service, which also is the sole online subscription home for PBS’ Downton Abbey, CBS’ Under the Dome and upcoming series Extant and the FX hit Justified.
