ABC Looks For Lost Girls
Fans of the book The Lost Girls will be excited to learn that ABC is set to issue a pilot order for a TV series that will be based on the book, and the original story that it was based on itself.
In its first major sale this year, Jerry Bruckheimer Television seems to be staying closer to the style of its reality hit The Amazing Race than its stable of crime procedurals. ABC has given the company and Warner Bros. TV a pilot commitment for an untitled hour-long project based on the blog and the subsequent book The Lost Girls.
The true story that set the ball rolling seems to be series-worthy, as in 2006, a group of friends (Jennifer Baggett, Holly Corbett and Amanda Pressner), who had been climbing the corporate ladder of Manhattan media, left behind their jobs, boyfriends, apartments and everything else that was familiar to them, for the purpose of embarking on a year-long search for adventure and inspiration.
They chronicled their journeying across four different continents and more than a dozen countries on their blog, LostGirlsWorld.com, and later turned the series into a travel memoir published by HarperCollins in May. Ildy Modrovich, who previously worked on Bruckheimer TV’s CSI: Miami and Eleventh Hour, is writing the adaptation and will executive produce the project with Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman.
The Lost Girls project, which draws parallels to another female-centered travel memoir, Eat, Pray, Love, is a major genre departure for Bruckheimer TV, which has built its successful business on criminal dramas. The project will also manage to reunite the company with ABC networ for the first time since the series The Forgotten was produced last year.
